What kind of bird is this? I think I have never seen one.

BTW Now that spring has come, we DO get visits by a Northern flicker!

This is a red-headed woodpecker. He/she has a nest in the timber and flies back and forth all day feeding hatchlings:

Ah, now I see the typical woodpecker feet. But it looks kind of squat for a woodpecker--maybe the perspective...

Indeed, this guy/gal is chubby and looks a bit ill-tempered. I believe that is a drop of water on his beak.
